The 'Merryn Wilderspin' Tartan
My authentic Scottish tartan in Yorkshire colours came to life as the result of my deciding that I wanted a flagship design that reflects my Yorkshire heritage and the fact that TVFMR is a Yorkshire brand.
The decision to use colours typically associated with Yorkshire was an obvious logical choice and I chose tartan as it's my favourite classic pattern and my late partner was Scottish.
The design process
Designing a tartan however required a very different process to my usual photographic approach and I used a design tool which creates authentic tartan textile patterns as developed by St Kilda, a traditional Scottish weaving company. From an authentic tartan viewpoint, it's the sett pattern created by weave, weft and thread-count that's all important and which not only provides the means to ultimately weave related tartan cloth but also officially distinguishes one tartan from another.
Officially registered Scottish Tartan
The Scottish Register of Tartans accepted my sett pattern as new and unique and officially registered it as the 'Merryn Wilderspin' tartan in the Scottish Register of Tartans.
