'Saltersgate' Watercolour

Alternatively known as 'The Devil's Elbow', Saltersgate is a steep hill on the A169 Pickering to Whitby road and was famous for being the location of The Saltersgate Inn which, as well as having a smuggling reputation, was also supposed to have kept its peat fire burning for over two hundred years to ward off the spirit of an excise duty man who was supposedly buried beneath it. The inn closed in 2008 and never re-opened. It has now been demolished and is awaiting redevelopment but I captured this view before demolition and the white end gable of the Inn can just be glimpsed in the mid-distance in the centre of the image to the left of the road.

All TVFMR fine art prints and canvases are available framed or unframed.

A 12 colour giclée process is used to print both fine art and canvas editions.

In the case of framed fine art prints, images are printed onto museum-grade paper which has a gently textured surface. Unframed fine art prints are printed onto Hahnemühle Rag paper, a fabulous cotton rag with a lovely soft feel and light felt texture which provides a subtle three-dimensional appearance and impressive pictorial depth.

Canvas prints are 38mm deep and printed onto finely textured artist-grade cotton canvas and finished with ‘museum wrapped’ edges meaning that the image covers the whole visible surface with edges finished plain white.
